Sandra McMechen Obituary

Sandra Lea (Sampson Magill) McMechen, 80, of Sebring, Florida, passed away unexpectedly in Orlando,
FL on February 5, 2025. Sandi was born on July 13, 1944 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the late William and
Donna Sampson. She attended Saint Paul Central High School where she excelled in school and later
graduated from Macalester College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Immediately out of
college, she worked for Ma Bell as an engineer. She later became an educator for the ACBL and finished
up her career at the newspaper in Sebring.
Sandi had a passion for gardening, and each year, she eagerly attended the Caladium Festival in Lake
Placid. As a proud member of the Master Gardeners, she nurtured a stunning secret garden that she
cultivated from the ground up. In addition to her love of plants, she enjoyed playing golf and caring for
her beloved cats and birds. Sandi was also an avid traveler with her close friend, Donna, by her side for
many of their adventures. She looked forward to her monthly Girls' Night Out, where she shared
laughter and good times with her friends. Her life was rich with beauty, nature, and cherished
connections.
Sandi will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her husband Harry McMechen; her siblings, William (Cindy) Sampson of Chattanooga,
TN and Sharon (Jerry) Jordahl of White Bear Lake, MN; two children, Tamara Black of Eau Claire, WI and
Theodore Magill of Waldron, AR; seven grandchildren, Tandra (Archie) Jewell of Waldron, AR, Tyler
Magill of Waldron, AR, Devin Magill of Waldron, AR, Samantha (Joe) Hinrichs of Altoona, WI, Gage
(Breadan) Nichols of Waldron, AR, Elizabeth Black of Eau Claire, WI, and Emily Black of Eau Claire, WI;
and three great-grandchildren, Adasha Jewell, Elijah Jewell, and Mason Hinrichs. She also leaves behind
many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
