Maxine May Crawford Spurlock, 87, died peacefully on November 12, 2017 at her home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Maxine was born on April 25, 1930 to Alton and Florence Crawford in Royal Oak, Michigan. Maxine accepted Christ as her Savior as a child and was a dedicated member of the Church of the Nazarene since her childhood, actively involved in whichever Nazarene church she attended including Nashville and Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, Okeechobee, Avon Park, Wauchula, Lake Placid, Interlachen, and Lakeland, FL and Rocky Mount, NC. She dedicated her life to being a preacher’s wife and mother. She taught herself to play the piano so that there would always be someone to play wherever her husband preached. She touched many lives through her years of ministry with her husband. She was an avid Scrabble player and her love of words brought her great joy to the very end of her life. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Maxine leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Allen (Debbie) Spurlock, daughter Cindy (Troy) Knudsen, grandchildren Christin (Scott) Thieme, Chris (Kristi) Spurlock, Jessica (Scott) Cuzzone, Courtney (Scott) Ewing, and Trevor Knudsen, 9 great grandchildren, her sisters, Kathy Andrews, Audrey (Ray) DeClute, Linda (Leon) Spangler, and Leona (Larry) Cavanaugh and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years Rev. Earl Spurlock, her brother John “Jack” Crawford, and her sister Vera Loeffler. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15 from 4-6 pm at Fountain Funeral Home in Avon Park, FL and funeral services will be Thursday, November 16 at 1 pm at Fountain Funeral Home with Byron Schortinghouse officiating. Interment will follow at Bougainvillea Cemetery in Avon Park.
