Janet L (Stimson) Willis

Janet L. Willis, 80, of Avon Park, passed away on Friday morning, July 5, 2019 at The Palms.  Born in Detroit, MI on March 6, 1939 to Clare and Evelyn (Overstreet) Stimson, her family moved to this area in 1947. Janet graduated from Avon Park High School in 1957, while in school she was a member the band, playing flute and piccolo.  She was also a member of the High School circus performing on the spider web.  She would continue to be an active part of the band as a band parent for 14 years, serving as president and chaperone.  She worked for the State of Florida as a property manager.  Janet was a member of First Baptist Church, Avon Park where she had been very active.  She was a secretary in the youth department for many years, sang in the choir and a part of the WMU.  Janet had been a member of the Woman’s Club and AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employees).  She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint with many family and friends receiving her work as gifts.  She was preceded in death by her husband Danny Joe Willis and brothers, Tom, Harry and Rodger Stimson.  She is survived by her daughter, Denice Willis, Pompano Beach, FL; son, Joe (Jennifer) Willis, Sebring, FL; and grandson, Pearce (Tarrah) Stephens.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 3:00 pm. at the First Baptist Church, Avon Park, with Pastor Jon Beck and Rev. George Hall officiating, followed by interment in Bougainvillea Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
