Marie B. Toole, 85, of Sebring, FL passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at home with her family by her side. She was born in County Donegal, Ireland and attended Bridget National School and Saint Mary’s secondary College in Buncrana. She then went to a convent at Swinford, Co Mayo where she spent her candidacy and novitiate, and was then transferred to the convent at Ballymahon Co Langford to complete her training. Marie taught at Quigley Point School in Ireland and was then assigned to teach at a catholic school in California, USA. Illness led to her departure from the convent, and she returned home to Ireland. After a year of recuperation, she took a position teaching English (one of the six languages which she spoke) at a Berlitz school in Germany. It was in Germany, where she met the love of her life, an American soldier stationed in Fulda. She married Stephen F. Toole on February 28, 1963 and returned to the states to live with Stephen at the Army base in Petersburg, VA. She and Stephen then had their first born, Bernard Toole, on the Army base, and two years later delivered their daughter, Colleen (Toole) Cameron, at home in Palmyra, NY. Marie took on the role of a dedicated, loving and caring mother, and then grandmother; her pride and joy were her family. As a mother, she supported and nurtured all interests that her children had through the years. She was an avid reader and especially loved Agatha Christie and Father Dowling mysteries. Marie was predeceased by her parents Bernard McTiernan and Kathleen (Kelly) McTiernan. She is survived by her immediate family; husband Stephen F. Toole, children Bernard Toole (Marianne) and daughter Colleen Cameron (Thomas), grandchildren Cindy Kurtz (James), Eric Toole (Jessica), Stephen Toole, and Catherine Toole.
